THE PROBLEM Many DJs lacked experience with video and lighting tools, and existing solutions were either overly simplistic or required steep learning curves. The challenge was to create a tool that seamlessly integrated into the Engine DJ ecosystem while offering intuitive, powerful control. MY ROLE I worked directly with the Product Director and C-level stakeholders to define the feature scope and user interface. I designed the Engine Visualiser interface from the ground up, ensuring it was consistent with the Engine platform while simplifying the creation of dynamic visual shows for DJs of all levels. WHAT WE DID • Developed an intuitive interface that fit seamlessly within the Engine ecosystem • Designed controls and visuals for syncing light, image and video to DJ sets • Ensured visual effects could be triggered with no prior experience required • Balanced simplicity and customisation for DJs of varying experience levels • Maintained design consistency with the rest of the Engine suite OUTCOMES • Enabled DJs to enhance their sets with visuals in just a few taps • Removed complexity and opened visual creation to a broader user base • Delivered an entry-level visual tool that scaled with user skill • Strengthened Engine’s position as the only embedded creative platform for DJs
