THE PROBLEM The original software interface for DJ lighting was overly complex and intimidating for new users. It didn’t reflect the clarity and polish of the Denon or Engine brands, and didn’t scale well across different product types and screen sizes. MY ROLE I worked closely with the Product Owner and C-level stakeholders to unify the interface design, developing a system that integrated seamlessly with the rest of the Engine suite. I led UI direction, prototyping, and design documentation. WHAT WE DID • Redesigned the UI for SoundSwitch and Engine Lighting Pro to simplify control and navigation • Unified the branding with the Engine DJ OS and Denon desktop programs • Developed new interaction patterns to streamline performance workflows • Introduced a clearer layout system for managing light shows and performance timing • Produced user personas, journey flows, and phased rollout diagrams for stakeholder review OUTCOMES • Significantly improved user satisfaction and reduced learning curve • Enabled DJs to create professional light shows quickly and easily • Ensured design scalability across future devices and apps • Delivered a polished, cross-platform visual identity aligned with the Engine family
